Sharing the Gospel through Video

If you're new here, read more about the More Good Foundation. We help members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon church) share their beliefs on the Internet. Learn more about what Mormons believe or talk with Mormons at LDS.net.

While the Church will publish its own videos on LDS.org, individuals can contribute much to online video about the Church:

While online videos range from good to bad, Tyler D has some ideas for videos Mormons could create.

In the last General Conference, Elder Eyring spoke about a deacon’s quorum that recorded their Sunday meeting for a deacon that couldn’t be there.

How can we better share the Gospel through online video and audio?

I’ve had a decent number of people watch a family history related video I posted on YouTube.

I love the idea of using the Internet to spread more good through video.

The link didn’t seem to work in the previous comment. Here’s the link again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP3OuzqyJug

Dan: Ah, there it is! It’s amazing you’d get several hundred views for what I’d consider a niche topic. I wonder how many genealogists know and use YouTube. I believe we’re only at the beginning of the video wave.

I have an interesting thought. I have had association with Mormons since 1969, when I belonged to an LDS scout troop, yet have remained an active Episcopalian. I thinking of videotaping my “testimony”, about unique aspects of Mormons and Mormonism I appreciate, (which I shared with Richard), and upload to youtube. Moreover, there are parts of my prayer life and faith that I can credit to my LDS experiences. Many Episcopalians have appreciated my insights into this uniquely American faith. Although some of us never join your faith, it does not diminish nor minimize the positive influence your church has had on our lives.

We often learn and grow more by association with people different from us than from our own communities.

Robert: I look forward to seeing your video. Let me know if we can help.

This thread caught my attention because I do an LDS podcast (MormonMomCast.com). We have many non-LDS listeners and I just love the feedback we get. I don’t see a video podcast from us coming out anytime soon, but in the audio format we are loving it!

    PS
The genealogy video made me tear up.

Whit: I’ve definitely heard of your podcast before! I can’t remember who told me, but someone told me it was doing very well. I am interested in hearing more about it.

Aaron sent me this link to a video on the Church website in German:

    http://www.kirche-jesu-christi.org/outreach/index.php?nav=movies&subnav=alone

It also uses Flash video, just like YouTube and Google Video, making it highly compatible across platforms and ideal for sharing.

Another use of multiple video formats on a Church web site:

Videos don’t necessarily have to be about the Church to reflect positively on it. For example, I looked through my digital home videos and found a short clip of my youngest son dancing. It’s really cute (at least I think so!), but it has nothing to do with the Church. Regardless, it’ll show up when someone searches for “Mormon” because I titled it, “Can Mormon’s Dance?”
